There she goes again!

Naomi Klein tells it like it is, so straight and true. How to describe what the problem with this whole Iraqi "democracy" thing had been alluding me, and there she goes (even if it is in the sad crap that has become The Nation).
"The only idea that has ever stood up to kings, tyrants and mullahs in the Middle East is the promise of economic justice, brought about through nationalist and socialist policies of agrarian reform and state control over oil. But there is no room for such ideas in the Bush narrative, in which free people are only free to choose so-called free trade. That leaves secularists with little to offer but empty talk of "human rights"--a weedy weapon against the powerful swords of ethnic glory and eternal salvation."

Oh, as long as I am doing show and tell;

*via Sandhill Trek, comes Scratchings, interesting and funny.

* This person came by here and left a comment (always appreciated, yet so rare). They have a blog, I think it may be from Portugal, with many lovely images. They stumbled on me via Mandarin, who have kindly linked me up (as well as provided me with inspiration as to this plain ass blog).

hi, it's me, madame l.
yes, there's so many good blogs in prtgse. they can read us but we can't read them. stupid stupid us. michelle from mandarin is cool although i have no idea what she's going on about most of the time. and fp from sandhilltrek is the coolest. i should be sleeping but i'm too busy worrrying. worrying takes up a lot of time. not writing takes up a lot of time too. choose an identity indeed.

Oh, man, tell me about it. Some weeks feel like one of those body surfing wipe-outs. Just a long, intense grind between hard bashes into the sand, driving grit into all the wrong places.

Phil Tagg in Montréal is a polyglot. He pleads innocence, says it is just, somehow easy for him, like playing a game. Harumph, a game, some seven or eight languages! But when he breaks into full on Brazilian Portugese, I hate him sooooooo, he even has that perfect little nasal accent that is sooo sexy. Jealous of knowledge and skill.

I always feel like I am sneaking onto Mandarin, stealing little bits of interesting code and scurrying back to the poodle to try 'em out. I knew NOTHING of HTML or CSS until you nudged me into this blog. I think Michelle's curious writings are part of what sets it apart from some highly commercial place. More like a web graphics bed & breakfast then a Marriot.

I was having a grinding week myself, and then before I could get over it and get something accomplshed, I just plain broke down into a redux of the Parisian bronchitis.

I know, stay on the train long enough and the scenery will change.
